The University’s Harmony Center strives to support students who work to live peacefully, develop inter-ethnic, intercultural, and interreligious understanding and exchanges, and offer comprehensive education for post-conflict Sri Lanka. The Harmony Center of the University of Vavuniya started officially on September 25, 2021.
Then, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has instructed all universities to establish Social Reconciliation Centers (SRCs) in each university as per circular No. 10/2021 of 21st December 2021. Accordingly, the Harmony Centre of the University of Vavuniya has adopted above circular and established with the same name with the special permission of the Chairman of the UGC. It was opened by High Excellency the President on 11th February 2022 as the first SRC in the higher education sector in Sri Lanka.
Through social, cultural, educational, scientific, and intellectual endeavors, the Harmony Centre seeks to foster peaceful coexistence among students and faculty. It also serves as a catalyst and resource hub for harmony and social cohesion at the local, public, and national levels.
