The Agreement was signed during the online meeting on the 20^th of December.

A delegation of the Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Belarus headed by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Janitha Abeywickrema Liyanage and a delegation of the University of Vavuniya headed by the Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Thampoe Mangaleswaran participated in the online meeting. The delegation of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno was headed by the Rector, Iruna Kiturka.

The meeting was productive, since both sides are interested in mutual cooperation development. The Agreement will facilitate scientific, academic and professional cooperation between partner universities and open new horizons for both parties within the framework of universities’ activities.

By the way, it is not the first meeting with the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, on the 10^th of July 2022 with the support of the Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Belarus a meeting with the administration of the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno was held. During this meeting, Sri Lankan side expressed interest in the development of academic mobility of staff and students and organization of scientific research in the following fields: biology, math, philology, tourism, economy, international law.

The University of Vavuniya is opening new faculties and specialties, and therefore the design and implementation of joint educational programs in English and Russian languages could become a promising area of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Soon a program of cooperation to the current agreement will be developed.
