Course Title:
Short Course in Computer Hardware
Medium of Teaching English (Explanation in Tamil will be given if necessary)
Overview:
This short course is designed to provide participants with a foundational understanding of computer hardware components and how they function. The course will cover the essential hardware components of a computer, including the CPU, RAM, hard drive, motherboard, and other peripheral devices. Through lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on activities, participants will learn how these components work together to form a functioning computer system.
Number of Students:
Participants of the course should not be less than 30 and more than 50
Course Duration:
10 weeks
Course Delivery:
- Lectures/practical sessions will be held on Sundays from 9am to 4pm
- Lectures/practical classes will be conducted senior lecturers/ lecturers/ instructors

Evaluation:
Achievement gained through this short course will be assessed three assessment tests (Assignment, Practical and Written) to be held at the end of this course. The pass mark of this test will be 40%.
Certification:
- Certificate of attendance guaranteed for participants who attend at least 80% of this course.
- At the end of the curse, the performance level of a participant is assessed taking 50% from the marks obtained for the practical and 50% from the marks obtained from the Assignment. A student must obtain an average (overall mark) of 40% in order to be eligible for the certificate of proficiency.
- The certificate will be awarded on the completion of the course successfully in accordance with the minimum grade gained in each of the course components of the program.
Course Structure:
- Introduction to computer hardware: overview of computer components and their functions.
- Motherboards: understanding the different types of motherboards and their components.
- CPUs: understanding the function of the CPU, types of CPUs, and how to choose the right one for your needs.
- Memory: understanding RAM, ROM, and cache memory, and their importance in computer performance.
- Storage devices: understanding the different types of storage devices, such as hard drives, solid-state drives, and external drives.
- Input and output devices: understanding the function of input and output devices, such as keyboards, mice, monitors, and printers.
- Power supply units: understanding the function of power supply units, how to choose the right one, and troubleshooting common problems.
- Cooling systems: understanding the importance of cooling systems and the different types of cooling systems available.
- Assembly and maintenance: understanding how to assemble a computer from scratch, and how to troubleshoot and maintain it.
- Upgrades and customization: understanding how to upgrade computer components, such as adding more RAM or replacing a hard drive.
