On January 23rd, 2025, the Physical Education Unit, University of Vavuniya successfully hosted a staff chess tournament at the Indoor Sports Complex, which kicked off promptly at 2:00 PM. The event attracted numerous participants, resulting in a fiercely competitive atmosphere where players showcased their strategic thinking and tactical skills. Ultimately, the tournament ended with a tie for first place, awarded to Dr. A. Rukshan and Mr. K. Mathanaharan, both of whom displayed exceptional prowess throughout their matches. In an impressive show of talent, T. Ragul, N. Edwin Linosh, T. Raguram, T. Pagalavan, and R. Sarmilan collectively claimed the third place. Following the conclusion of the tournament, an awarding ceremony was held to honor the winners. Prof. Y. Nanthagoban, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, and Ms. Anojah Vasitharan, Senior Assistant Registrar for Examination and Student Admission, presented trophies and certificates to the victorious players, celebrating their remarkable performances and the spirit of competition that defined the day. The event not only highlighted the staff’s chess skills but also fostered camaraderie and teamwork within the university Staffs.
