Empowering the next generation of Sri Lankan engineers and innovators, the IEEE Student Branch of University of Vavuniya has joined hands with IEEE YESIST12. This collaboration aims to select talented youth from Sri Lanka and provide them with a platform to showcase their innovative ideas and solutions for the social and humanitarian issues affecting their communities.
IEEE YESIST 12, or Youth Endeavours for Social Innovation using Sustainable Technology, is an international talent show that aims to inspire the next generation of engineers to think creatively about solving social and humanitarian issues. Through a variety of tracks, teams of up to four members can showcase their innovative ideas and compete for recognition and prizes.
Here are the five exciting tracks that teams can participate in:
- WePOWER: The key objective of WePOWER is to elevate and empower women in the Power field. This track motivates women for efficient involvement in energy system projects and utilities. - SPECIAL TRACK: The Special Track of IEEE YESIST 12 is dedicated to finding innovative solutions to global humanitarian and business challenges. Introduced in the 2020 edition, the track aims to improve the standard of living for individuals by rewarding novel ideas and creative proposals presented in an interesting manner. - IENGAGE: The IEngage Track of YESIST12 aims to bridge the gap between industry and student communities by providing training on foundational aspects of cutting-edge technologies. It focuses on career development, industrial skills development, and startup/entrepreneurship development to take innovators to the next level of product and startup building. - INNOVATION CHALLENGE: The Innovation Challenge Track seeks to encourage creativity and innovation among participants in developing novel ideas to address the Sustainable Development Goals. - MAKER FAIR: MakerFair Track 2023 provides a platform for innovators, makers, and creators to showcase their innovative products to the international community. The track aims to address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and inspire pre-final, final-year, and graduate students to develop prototypes that can eventually be developed into full-fledged products. This event is open to young individuals with enthusiasm and determination to invent and showcase their innovative ideas capable of ideation to commercialization. Teams of one to four members can register for the Prelims Round with a nearby Pilot. For participants in Sri Lanka, the Pilot is Anandaraja Harish Kavinda from the University of Vavuniya, who can be contacted at harishkavinda@ieee.org.
