The university owns one hundred and sixty (160) acres of land, including a forest pocket (25 acres) and two minor tanks (Saalampaikulam and Velan Kulam). Salampaikulam lies between the university residential area and the academic area. It helps maximise the biodiversity of flora and fauna and makes the premises environmentally friendly. Apart from the forest pocket, the university premises hold more than 2500 trees (65 species). They help students and staff embrace nature, celebrate the seasons with its beauty, and pursue their studies and hobbies (projects, photography, bird watching, etc.).
Landscaping is a creative and deeply satisfying experience. It is important to add landscape features that follow the basic landscape principles. You can make a garden or a piece of land more attractive by altering the existing design, adding ornamental features, and planting trees and shrubs. Indoor and outdoor landscape gardening also involves staff and students in recreational activities.
Individuals, groups, or organisations can donate funds or goods to develop the landscape and green environment of the University of Vavuniya.
