The Conference

The University of Vavuniya as a seat of learning goes back to 1991. In the 1990’s, both to meet the increasing demand for higher education and to provide the opportunities for the people from different regions of the country, Affiliated University Colleges (AUCs) were established in all the Provinces of Sri Lanka. The Northern Province Affiliated University College (NPAUC) was established in Vavuniya on 20th November 1991 as one of the nine AUCs established in all nine (09) provinces in Sri Lanka.  Subsequently, out of the nine AUCs, four (04) new universities were established by upgrading the AUCs as National Universities in 1996/1997. while, two (02) AUCs were upgraded as Campuses, namely, Trincomalee and Vavuniya. The Vavuniya Campus of the University of Jaffna was established on 1st April 1997 by an order made under Section 22 of the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978 with two faculties, namely the Faculties of Business Studies and Applied Science. In 2020, the Faculty of Technological Studies was established. In 2021, Vavuniya Campus of the University of Jaffna was upgraded as University of Vavuniya.

Vision of the University of Vavuniya is to be a leading Centre of excellence in knowledge advancement and dissemination for sustainable change and the mission is to excel in the quality of education, innovative research and active collaboration for empowering the graduates and for the sustainable development of the region and nation. As a service provider in the higher education sector we are customer focused – where producing totally satisfied customers is the prime aim of all our endeavors. ‘Customers’ in our perspectives are our (past, present and future) students. As such, we are continuously improving our services to cater to the customer need as per market conditions, as well as ensuring an excellent after-sales service (i.e. following up the progress of our alumni and playing a mentor role throughout their professional development phases).

Research tradition of University of Vavuniya commences from year 2008, Vavuniya Campus Annual Research Session 2008 (VCARS 2008), VCARS 2009, VCARS 2010, VCARS 2011 followed by faculty level research conferences. Research Conference on Business Studies (RCBS) conducted in 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022 by Faculty of Business Studies. Faculty Annual Research Sessions (FARS) were conducted by Faculty of Applied Science in years 2020, 2021 and in 2022. Faculty of Technological Studies has organized the first research conference named “Research conference on Advances in Information Communication Technology 2022” in 2022. Moreover, University of Vavuniya has organized the first international Research conference on Harmony and Reconciliation in 2023.

University of Vavuniya has organized its first International Research Conference (VUIRC2021) in 2021 under the theme of “Human Empowerment through Research Excellence” on 15th of October 2021. Due to Covid 19 pandemic VUIRC 2021 was conducted in virtual mode. VUIRC 2021 has called for research works from a wider spectrum of conference tracks and has received more than 150 research articles, 97 of them were accepted through a review process and got published in the proceedings of VUIRC 2021.
