The Harmony Centre, University of Vavuniya, hosted its 2nd Anniversary and Harmony Day Celebration 2023 and it took place on the 20th of September 2023 at SH 4 Hall, University of Vavuniya, Sri Lanka. Chief Guest: Prof. T. Mangaleswaran, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, Special Guest: Ms. Kana Moriwaki, Peace Researcher/Advisor, Special Guest: Mr. T. Balakumar, Political Specialist at the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka, Guest of Honours: Deans of the faculties, Registrar, Bursar, Religious leaders attended Distinguished Guests.  The event featured a panel discussion on the topic “Nurturing Foundations for Sustainable Peace: The Pathways in Sri Lanka.” The discussion aimed to address issues related to peace and sustainability in Sri Lanka. Ms. Frances Bulathsinghala, a Communication Practitioner for Peace Building, served as the moderator for the panel discussion.

Panelists were Dr. Jeyaseelan Gnanaseelan, Head of the Department of English Language Teaching, Faculty of Business Studies, University of Vavuniya, Emeritus Prof. Ariyarathne Kaluarachchi, Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of the Visual and Performing Arts, Colombo, Sri Lanka and  Mr. Ananth Palakidnar, Senior Journalist, Former News Editor of Ceylon Today & Sunday Observer.

A newsletter was published during the event, presumably to provide information and updates about the activities and achievements of the Harmony Centre and the University of Vavuniya. The event also included a ceremony to award certificates to participants who excelled in various competitions, including poem, debate, drama, speech, best announcer, and essay competitions related to National Unity.

This celebration appears to have been a platform for promoting peace, unity, and sustainable development in Sri Lanka, with the participation of distinguished guests and insightful panel discussions on relevant topics.
