The University of Vavuniya’s Physical Education Unit successfully organized the Staff Badminton Tournament on December 18, 2024, at the Indoor Sports Complex, aimed at promoting physical fitness and fostering team spirit among staff members. Emphasizing the tournament’s role in enhancing workplace morale, reducing stress, and fostering a sense of community among staff members in the fast-paced academic environment.
The event commenced with a warm welcome from the coordinator, Mr. R. Sivasegaran, followed by an encouraging address from the Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor Prof. Arulampalam Atputharajah, alongside other esteemed guests such as the Registrar, Mr. N. Rajavisahan, and the Dean of the Faculty of Technological Studies, Mr. V. Senthooran.
The matches kicked off at 2:30 PM and continued until 7:30 PM, showcasing remarkable talent and sportsmanship. Recognizing outstanding performances, certificates and trophies were awarded to the winners, with S. Sanjayan claiming victory in men’s singles, R. Tharshika in women’s singles, S. Ketheesvaran and Pushpakanthan in men’s doubles, and the duo of S. Ketheesvaran and R. Tharshika in mixed doubles.
The event concluded with a heartfelt thank you speech by Ms. G. Thusyanthy.
