The ELEVATE Film Screening & Discussion event was successfully held on February 19, 2025, at the University of Vavuniya, organized by the Centre for Gender Equity and Equality (CGEE) of the University of Vavuniya. This initiative, conducted in collaboration with the Centre for Media and Information Literacy and the University Grants Commission, aimed to raise awareness and promote discussions on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).
The event featured powerful short films created by young female undergraduates, using cinema as a tool to challenge societal norms and advocate for SRHR and SGBV awareness within the university community. Distinguished guests, including the Vice Chancellor, committee members of the Centre for Gender Equity and Equality, faculty members, Women Development Officials, and students, actively participated in thought-provoking discussions. The event highlighted the ability of short films to deliver impactful messages, regardless of their duration, while contributing to a more inclusive and informed future.
