2024(Youth Endeavours For Social Innovation Using Sustainable Technology) The IEEE YESIST12 is a global platform for student innovation designed to promote innovation aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It inspires young minds to adopt service-oriented engineering practices, addressing humanitarian and social issues through innovative ideas. Pilots for the IEEEYESIST12 are selected worldwide to host the preliminary round of IEEE YESIST12 from individuals, IEEE members, sections, universities, and industry enthusiasts who are eager to contribute to fostering innovation. A Pilot plays a pivotal role in conducting the preliminary round of this esteemed competition.
This year in IEEEYESIST12 2024, Ms. Masma Sajahan from University of Vavuniya was selected as one of the Pilot Single Point of Coordination (SPOC) from Sri Lanka. Under her guidance, eight teams from the University of Vavuniya participated in the preliminary round “IEEEYESIST12 2024 Prelims”. Their projects showcased a range of innovative solutions driven by a passion for societal impact. Esteemed jury members, Dr. Gunjan Varshney and Mr. Pradeepkumar Bharadwaj, meticulously evaluated the presentations. Two teams, “VAGenix” and “Quantum Quest,” from the innovation track, were selected to advance to the grand finale representing University of Vavuniya. The grand finale was held at Tunis Science City, Tunisia, on the 7th and 8th of September 2024. Participants gained valuable benefits, including opportunities for innovation, professional networking, global exposure, teamwork, idea refinement, and practical experience.
Ms. Masma Sajahan received a certificate of appreciation from the IEEE YESIST12 and IEEE Tunisia Section as recognition of her contributions as Pilot SPOC at the grand finale. A letter of gratitude was presented to the University of Vavuniya for its outstanding contribution as a Pilot institution. Prof.A.Atputharajah, Vice Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya presented the certificate to Ms. Sajahan at the Vice Chancellor’s Board Room, University of Vavuniya appreciating her dedication and the university’s commitment to fostering young innovators.
