On December 4, 2024, a productive and insightful meeting was held in the Board Room of the IT Centre with representatives from the British Council, Mr. Dominic Hudson, Director of Exams, and Mr. Ramani Vaheesan, Business Development Consultant. The meeting brought together key university officials, including the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A. Atputharajah, the Registrar, Mr. N. Rajavisahan, Acting Librarian, Mr. S. Shanmugathasan, Director of the IT Centre, Mr. N. Edwin Linosh, and the British Council Coordinator, Ms. P. Sarmatha. The discussions centered on fostering collaboration between the university and the British Council, focusing on several strategic initiatives to benefit students and the wider community. This meeting also marked the establishment of a “British Corner” within the university library, aimed at providing students and staff with access to a rich array of resources on English language learning and International English Language Testing System (IELTS). This will strengthen the university’s commitment to empowering its students with globally relevant skills and resources ways to enhance the integration of IELTS practice modules in the university’s computer labs, facilitating hands-on preparation for students aspiring to take the exam. Additionally, the meeting emphasized to encourage the use of English language learning apps among students and promote community engagement in language development. This meeting was organized by the British Council Coordinator, Ms.P. Sarmatha.
